The launch the book “Remembering Mayo’sFallen Heroes” in the Welcome Inn Hotel, on Friday the 26th of September 2008 at 8pm. This is a chronicle of articles, facts, and stories about those who served and died in the various wars of the past century. While this is mainly my own work the work, there are some serious contributions from noted national authors Kevin Myers and Myles Dungan in the book, with excellent contributions from Terry Reilly, Ethel Corduff, John Basquille, Captain Donal Buckley, Captain V.M. McEllin, Basil Burke, Johnny Mee, Eamon Horkan, and many other notable persons, together with articles and stories from family members and the local Mayo Newspapers of the period. Many other people assisted with research and preparation.

The book is reflective of the fallen commemorated in the Mayo Peace Park, Garden of Remembrance, and will I hope be an historical reference for students of local history and the people of Mayo for generations to come.

It has to be pointed out that no public grant aid, was received for this, for this essential project; it is been funded from my own resources and from some advertising sold to defray the various costs of production and printing. I wished to convey my personal thanks to all those who helped out in any way, in particular to Ernie Sweeney and John Basquille for working on the advertising. To Johnny Mee for proof reading the book and for his contributions and observations. It would not have been possible to print this book in the time frame allowed, were it not for the outstanding work and skills of Declan Durcan and Karl Anne Wilson at Visual Impact Ltd, their courtesy and support was exceptional, as the book was put together, no words could adequately no describe their commitment and dedication to get the job done to the highest standard.

This was book published and produced in Mayo, sincere thanks to the Connaught Telegraph for printing the book, they done an outstanding job and it is a great credit to them. I was given all the usual advice about going to China, to save costs, but I firmly believe we have to support our own first, and Johnny Jordan and the staff of the Connaught Telegraph have done a magnificent job.

The book will be launched by the internationally famous Author and Journalist Peter Osborne, who is travelling from London for the occasion

I would appreciate your attendance and support for the occasion and I look foreword to meeting you there. The book will Cost €35 plus postage, it tell’s the story of all those who are commemorated in the park, with articles and stories.

Yours Sincerely

Michael Feeney
